The Helsinki Flamenco Association was founded in 1993 to bring together flamenco enthusiasts and activists in and around Helsinki, as well as to promote awareness of flamenco in Finland. The Association has later attracted members also from other parts of Finland and even from Estonia. It now has some 300 active members.
The Helsinki Flamenco Association's venue - Peña - is located at Helsinginkatu 32E 00530 Helsinki
The two studios can be rented for both teaching and practicing purposes. The facilities are mainly offered to members but non-members can rent them if they are available.
The membership publication Letra is issued 4 times a year and sent by post to all members. The magazine includes information on flamenco in Finland and other countries, as well as interviews, stories on courses by members etc.
The Helsinki Flamenco Festival is organized every February.
The first festival was organized in 1997 and during the years it has featured top performers such as Vicente Amigo, Belén Maya, Rafaela Carrasco, Ángel Rojas and Miguel Poveda. In addition to international performers, the festival aims to present Finnish flamenco art. Festival premiers have included for example La Kalevala in 2003 and ¡La Máscara! in 2005.
